The &quot;P.C.&quot; is an abbreviation for &quot;Command Post&quot;. 

Em&#039;s instrument to which Sam refers was the harmonica, which is consistent with her being the character she apparently was. Some of my Dad&#039;s cherished memories (she died when he was only 9 years old) are of his mother Em tearing it up with the harmonica.
